Our history

A century on the same coast.

From a practice founded in the 1920s to the firm that celebrated 100 years of serving the people and businesses of South Wales in 2020.

  1. 1920s

    David Llewellyn Jones establishes the practice from which the firm grew.

  2. 1950s

    Mr Cyril Passmore forms D.C. Passmore & Co in St Mary's Street, Cardiff.

  3. Late 1950s

    Becomes Passmore Walters & Hopkins, trading from 132 Holton Road, Barry.

  4. 1978

    The Barry and Cardiff offices divide by agreement; Barry continues as D.C. Passmore & Co.

  5. 1987

    Moves to current premises at 21 Tynewydd Road, Barry, opening Monday 10 August 1987.

    Catherine Roblin has been a practising solicitor for over 30 years and is highly regarded amongst her peers and her clients. Catherine qualified as a solicitor in 1985.

    Catherine is a specialist in International matters involving children and in particular has a vast experience of representing client’s in cross border disputes; for instance where parental child abduction has occurred or where a parent is looking to prevent a removal. Catherine is aware of the need to move quickly and effectively in such matters and has strong links with highly experienced international lawyers, interpreters and the border agencies. Catherine was the first solicitor in Wales to become an accredited member of the International Child Abduction Panel representing parents in Hague Convention and Wardship proceedings.

    Catherine specialises in cases where a parent seeks to relocate to another country with their children, as well as in cases where a parent is trying to stop the proposed move to another Country, whether it be within the United Kingdom or outside the UK for instance to Europe, Asia, Australia, United States, Pakistan, Libya, Iraq (and all other locations).

    Catherine is an accredited member of the Law Society Family Law Advanced Panel, the Children Panel and is a Resolution Panel Specialist. In addition, she is a solicitor advocate who has higher rights of audience in the civil court and also sits as a part time Tribunal Judge. Catherine deals with issues in a professional and effective way arising from relationship breakdown, including divorce and financial ancillary relief proceedings, civil partnerships, cohabitee disputes, domestic violence, pre-nuptial agreements and all issues relating to children including care proceedings instigated by local authorities. Catherine is a specialist in dealing with complex care proceedings cases, including cases involving serious injuries, infant mortality and cases comprising cultural/religious factors.

    Catherine is a qualified mediator and Arbitrator and mediates on all types of private disputes including divorce, separation and children issues.

    Catherine takes extreme pride in her work and is an experienced and effective lawyer.

    Sally is an expert in dealing with the financial issues that arise upon separation or divorce and in particular high net value cases. Sally has considerable experience having been practising in such matters for over 20 years. Sally is a director at the firm and joined in 1996.

    Sally has a wealth of knowledge in relation to the benefits of entering into a pre-nuptial/post nuptial or cohabitation agreement.

    Sally is an expert in children proceedings including applications for child arrangements orders (contact and residence).

    Sally is highly regarded by her peers and clients, and has been described as “knowledgeable, professional, helpful and never flustered.” She is also a “well regarded specialist in domestic violence issues”.

    Sally is an accredited specialist member of Resolution in financial relief and domestic violence and has been a collaborative lawyer since 2010. She is a member of the South Wales Pod Group. Sally is committed to working collaboratively. Sally is also a Governor of a junior school.

    With experience in providing wills, probate, lasting powers of attorney and court of protection work, Carli has an interest in helping elderly clients.

    A fluent Welsh speaker, Carli is a member of Solicitors for the Elderly. In 2013, she became a full member of STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners).

    She has conducted talks for the Alzheimer’s Society, local women’s guilds meetings, and Age Concern.

    Carli also has an interest in conveyancing.

    She graduated from Cardiff University in 2003, and completed the Legal Practice Course also at Cardiff University in 2004.

    Carli qualified as a solicitor in 2006 and joined Passmores as a private client solicitor. She became a director in 2011.

    Claire joined the firm in January 2016 as a solicitor in our property department and became a director in 2021.

    Since qualifying as a solicitor in 2004 Claire has specialised in residential and commercial property transactions as well as private client work.

    Claire regularly advises clients in all aspects of residential conveyancing matters, including Sales and Purchases, Transfers of Equity, Lease Extensions, Re-mortgages, and Equity Release.

    She is also able to advise on commercial property transactions

    Prior to joining the firm Claire worked at a national conveyancing firm managing a team of property lawyers.

    Catrin completed her degree and Legal Practice Course at Swansea before joining the family department at her first firm as a paralegal in 2012. Catrin then qualified as a solicitor in 2016. Before moving to Passmores Solicitors Catrin worked in Cardiff specialising in children matters. Whilst being based in Cardiff, Catrin was shortlisted for the 2018 Cardiff District Law Society Junior Lawyer of the Year Award, she was the only family solicitor featured on the shortlist.

    Catrin joined the family department at Passmores Solicitors in 2024, specialising in Child Care Law, dealing with complex matters where the Local Authority have become involved with families. Catrin has experience of a diverse mix of cases ranging from accusations of neglect to physical abuse. Catrin also has significant experience in cases involving sexual abuse or when there are allegations around incident images.

    Catrin is an accredited member of the Children Panel having been accredited in 2023.

    In addition, Catrin also has experience in dealing with contact disputes between parents and other family members.

    Catrin can explain difficult and upsetting information in a sensitive and understanding manner. She is committed to providing a professional service, ensuring that through some of the most difficult times her clients feel supported.

    Emily Gammon is a Solicitor in our Family Law department, having completed her Training Contract with us and qualified in August 2025.

    Emily graduated with a first class Law degree from De Montfort University in Leicester in 2021. Emily then went on to complete her postgraduate studies at Cardiff University and she graduated with a Masters Degree in Law (LPC/ LLM) in 2025.

    Emily now works as part of our Family Law department, with a particular focus on private and public law children matters, matrimonial and finance cases and domestic abuse issues, including applications for Non-Molestation and Occupation Orders. She also has experience in drafting Wills.

    Through her work, Emily regularly supports victims of domestic abuse and has developed strong skills in advising clients navigating emotionally distressing situations, particularly following relationship breakdowns.

    A significant portion of Emily’s work is funded through legal aid, allowing her to advocate for vulnerable individuals who may otherwise be unable to access legal support.

    Outside of work, Emily is a passionate equestrian and lifelong animal lover. She competed in regional BUCS dressage and show-jumping events for DMU Equestrian between 2018 and 2021, where she also served as a committee member. Emily continues to ride regularly with her horse, Belle, and enjoys spending her free time on long walks with her dogs.

    Elin qualified as a Solicitor in September 2025 and works within both the Private Client and Conveyancing departments at Passmores, having joined the firm in 2022 where she also completed her Training Contract.

    Elin is a fluent Welsh speaker who completed her undergraduate degree at Cardiff University in 2022, before going on to study the Legal Practice Course at Cardiff University, which she completed in the summer of 2023. During this time, she also worked part time at Passmores as a Paralegal.

    Elin works alongside Carli Evans in the Private Client department and assists on probate matters, while also managing her own caseload. Her work includes will drafting (including the preparation of new wills and amendments to existing wills), advising on and preparing Lasting Powers of Attorney, and dealing with probate matters from initial instruction through to completion.

    In addition, Elin runs her own conveyancing caseload, acting on a range of residential property transactions including sales and purchases, Transfers of Equity and assents. Her work also includes liaising with clients, estate agents and other solicitors throughout the transaction.

    Elin is involved in monthly free advice clinics held at Age Connect in the town centre and at Golau Caredig, and supports fundraising initiatives for these worthwhile causes.

    In her free time Elin enjoys walking, going to the gym, reading, spending time with friends and family, and travelling.

    Jack joined Passmores in June as a Paralegal in both the Private Client and Conveyancing departments, initially working part-time before taking up a full-time role in September.

    Jack studied Law at Cardiff University at undergraduate, before completing the Legal Practice Course at Cardiff.

    In the Private Client department, Jack works closely with Director Carli Evans on a variety of matters including Probate and Lasting Powers of Attorney. Jack also has experience in will drafting and amending, as well as supporting Solicitor Elin Jones with ongoing cases.

    Within the conveyancing department, Jack assists Director Claire Grace and Solicitor Elin Jones with residential property transactions, which includes contract preparation, liaising with clients solicitors and estate agents, as well as work involving the Land Registry and Management Companies.

    Outside of work, Jack enjoys playing golf, spending time outdoors and exploring the Welsh countryside.
